What Is The Difference Between Americano And Filtered Coffees?
The difference between café Americano and filtered coffee is their brewing methods.
A café Americano is made with 1 to 4 shots of espresso and an equal amount of hot water. Notably, Starbucks uses an espresso to hot water ratio of 1:7 to 1:5 depending on the drink size.
Filtered coffee is drip coffee or brewed coffee and may even have a reference to pour over or siphon coffee. The term “filtered coffee” is very generic and infers the use of a filter be it paper, cloth or metal.
Filtered coffee is a specific and intentional coffee brewing method while an Americano is espresso diluted with hot water. Generally speaking, when the traditional espresso to water ratio of 1:1 is adhered to an Americano has a stronger taste.
