About Me

Hi I’m Derek, a coffee expert and professionally qualified SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) barista with the professional certification in barista skills and coffee brewing. 

I’m the author of several books about coffee brewing, coffee recipes, coffee cocktails and specialty coffee beans and guides to specific coffee varieties and sustainable coffee practice.

I have 20 years and counting of experience as a barista working in specialty coffee shops. 

My love for coffee, a big passion of mine, has taken me to various countries in an effort to master making authentic coffee drinks from different coffee cultures.  

Currently, I have in depth knowledge of American, Australian, New Zealand, Canadian, United Kingdom, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Thai, Malaysian, Singaporean, Cambodian, Indonesian and Vietnamese coffee beverages and culture. 

While coffee may seem to others to be a very simple drink, it is actually more complex than wine, even the finest of wines. 

The taste, body and mouthfeel of a particular coffee can change depending on how it is roasted, how it is brewed and like the best wines, the climate and cultivation and processing play an important role. 

I encourage you to try all the coffee recipes on Latte Love Brew and above all to experiment with your brewing technique and ways of making coffee to find the ultimate coffee for you. 

For example, did you know that Vietnam has some exotic coffee drinks made with various food items like avocado, banana, orange, tonic water and even eggs. 

Like it or not coffee forms an integral part of our lives, be it a morning wake me up, an afternoon pick me up and chit-chat with friends to a coffee date with a hot guy or gal!

– which is why I say “coffee is love” many relationships, personal, romantic  or business are started or discussed over a coffee. 

If someone wants to talk business with me, it’s not done in a stuffy conference room with a presentation or over lunch. It’s done over coffee. 

My aim with Latte Love Brew is to share my passion for coffee with you and perhaps ignite or reignite that passion that you have for coffee. My aim is also to help you to brew better coffee both for you personally and to get that “wow” factor at dinner parties and when your friends come over for a little chit-chat and make you known as the “Coffee guy” or “coffee girl”, that person that is known for their amazing and exotic brews.
