How To Use Keurig 2.0 Coffee Maker
Let’s focus on the Keurig 2.0 Coffee Maker and get you using it to brew amazing coffee, tea, herbal infusions, juices, hot chocolate and even soup.
First, you need to unbox it, rinse it and prime it for its first brew.
Unbox Your Keurig 2.0 Coffee Machine And Plug It In
The starting point, other than buying your Keurig brewer and taking it home, is to unbox your coffee machine.
Open the box carefully and preserve the box. Flat pack it and keep it in a safe place as you may need it later when or if it needs to be repaired or parts replaced.
It also looks better if you want to sell it, and you have a perfectly preserved box.
Save the owners manual and keep it in a safe place as you may need it later.
Remove any tape, or elastic bands etc that may be holding things together.
Plug in your Keurig brewer.
How To Use Keurig 2.0 Coffee Maker – Setting Up Your Keurig 2.0 For The First Time
Before you use a coffee machine for the first time, you must first clean it. This is very important as various parts of your machine get touched and handled as it gets transported through the factory and may collect dust and other particles.
A simple rinse is all that is needed.
I am absolutely sure that you don’t want any of the dust and other particles in your coffee.
Lift The Handle Of Your Keurig 2.0 To Open The Brew Head
Begin the process of rinsing your coffee maker by opening the brew head. Opening the brew head is easy. Lifting the handle is all that is needed.
In all probability you’ll notice a shipping disc placed in the pod holder.
Save it. You may need it later, both for when you sell it, if you sell it on and for when you may need to send it for repair or have parts replaced by Keurig.
If the shipping disc is missing, don’t worry as it is not a big deal at all. It’s really just a place holder.

Setting Up Your Water Tank
Remove the water tank and clean it with a soft sponge and hot soapy water.
Clean it well, paying attention to all parts including the inlet valve. Rinse well, rinse it very well with an abundance of fresh water.
You most certainly don’t want to get any soapy bubbles into your coffee.
Rinse And Prepare Your Water Filter
Your water filter is not designed to be immediately clipped in place, and you shouldn’t do that anyway; you must rinse it.
Rinse it with an abundance of clean water and allow it to absorb and soak up as much water as it will.
Then shake and massage your filter as much as needed. You may see some particles that fall off. Keep shaking, rinsing and massaging your filter until no more particles fall off.
I’m absolutely sure that you don’t want any of those specks or charcoal getting into your cup of coffee.
Insert Your Water Filter
Insert your water filter and ensure that it is securely and correctly in place. It should fit snugly.
Even though your Keurig 2.0 coffee maker has a built-in water filter I am still a large proponent of using, at the very minimum, filtered water to fill the water tank every time.
This is both to prolong the life of the removable water filter and to further help reduce the probability of mineral deposits building up inside my coffee maker.
Fill Your Water Reservoir
Fill your water reservoir with filtered water. This small step will help to prolong the life of your Keurig brewer due to less damage to your water heater, water pump and other parts caused by the mineral deposits building up.
Run A Flush Cycle
Now your water reservoir is filled with clean water and your water filter is properly installed and in place.
It is time to run a full rinsing cycle.
With your water tank filled to the max fill line, power up your Keurig 2.0 and press brew.
Run a complete brew cycle until your water reservoir is empty by pressing the brew button.
Ensure that you have a coffee mug in place to catch the water that falls.
Run this type of flushing cycle once per week to ensure that your coffee machine is clear of easily removable dirt like loose coffee grounds and particles.

Maintaining Your Keurig 2.0 In Optimal Brewing Conditions
To keep your Keurig brewing perfect coffee, use filtered water or bottled water to fill the water reservoir and run a rinsing cycle every week.
Once per month, run a descaling cycle and clean your needles.
Fill the water reservoir with 50% white cleaning vinegar and 50% fresh water fill to the max fill line.
Press brew and run brew cycles until your water tank is empty.
Once this is complete. Open your brew head and remove the pod holder and clean it. Clean the area around both your entry needle and exit needle with a cotton bud dipped in white cleaning vinegar.
Use two or three pipe cleaners and twist them together, and soak them in white cleaning vinegar and insert into your entrance needle. Poke and twist around as far as you can go. Your goal is to remove any blockages and clean coffee oil and gunk from inside the needle and the jet lines.
Repeat for your exit needle with fresh pipe cleaners.
You are now ready to use the Keurig 2.0 needle cleaning tool.
How To Use Keurig 2.0 Needle Cleaning Tool
Locate your orange needle maintenance tool and fill it with 50% white cleaning vinegar and 50% fresh water and place it in the pod holder while paying attention to line it up correctly.
Open and close your brew head 5 to 7 times in a pumping action.
Your needles should now be perfectly clean. Now fill your water reservoir with fresh water to the max fill line and run a series of 7 to 9 flushing cycles to rinse your coffee maker of all traces of vinegar including the scent.
Congratulations, your coffee machine should be in perfect and prime condition for brewing coffee.
Frequently Asked Questions About How To Use Keurig 2.0

How Long Does A Keurig Take To Brew?
A Keurig coffee maker can take from 1 to 3 minutes to brew a cup of coffee starting with cold water. If you keep your machine on a setting to keep the water warm, it can take only a minute to make a cup of coffee.
Why Is The Keurig 2.0 So Expensive?
The design of your coffee maker and the technology that it contains drives up the price. New technology, and more expensive parts make it more durable which translates to a more expensive machine.
It’s like buying a new computer: the newer and more modern it is, the more expensive it is.

Your Keurig brewer will switch off after 2 hours of non-use. You can disable this feature if you want to keep your brewer on all the time.

The large circular K button is the brew button. For some models it is marked as “Brew”. Insert your coffee pod, select the cup size that you want and press brew.

Yes, it is okay for you to keep water in your Keurig coffee maker overnight. Don’t keep the water in for more than a couple of days as your water will go off and bacteria will build up.
