When it comes to discussing Starbucks Doubleshot drinks we are of course referring to two series of canned coffee beverages:

Both these drinks are different as one is an espresso based coffee drink that comes in a variety of flavors while the other is a coffee based energy drink.

Let’s talk about both these drinks in more detail.

Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso

Starbucks Doubleshot espresso is available in a variety of flavors and first appeared on the market in 2008.

They are a very convenient way of enjoying Starbucks coffee at home, work, the gym and just about anywhere without the need to visit their outlets.

You can find Starbucks Doubleshot espresso drinks at all major retail outlets as they are sold in:

  • Walmart.
  • Target.
  • Gas stations.
  • Grocery stores.
  • Supermarkets.
  • 7-Eleven.
  • Amazon.
  • eBay.

Of course, you can buy them at all Starbucks outlets, but you don’t go there to buy a canned coffee when you can enjoy a fresh one.

The calories, caffeine and sugar content varies depending on which flavor that you order. I’ll get to those details in a moment.

The flavors available are:

  • Salted Caramel.
  • Cubano.
  • Americano.
  • Espresso And Cream.
  • Espresso And Cream Light.

The drinks are tasty, delicious and are made with Starbucks 100% Arabica coffee. You can find them.

Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso Caffeine Content

Starbucks Doubleshot espresso drinks of all flavors are available in the same sized can which is 6.5 Oz (195 ml).

The total caffeine content varies from 70 mg to 120 mg of total caffeine depending on which flavor you have.

  • Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso Salted Caramel Cream Flavor 6.5 Oz (195 ml) Can: 70 mg.

Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso Nutrition Facts

The nutritional facts for all Starbucks Doubleshot espresso drinks are the same with the exemption of their espresso and cream light flavor.

Let’s start with the espresso and cream light and then later I’ll move on to talking about the other flavors and the nutritional details to help you compare them and the benefits of the espresso and cream light.

By far the best way of displaying the details is by using a table.

Nutrient Amount Percentage Of Daily Value
Total Calories 70 3.5%
Cholesterol 15 mg 5%
Protein 2 grams N/A
Sodium 50 mg 2%
Total Carbohydrates 5 grams 2%
Of Which Fiber 0 grams 0%
Of Which Sugar 5 grams 14% (men), 17% (Women)
Total Fat 4 grams 5%
Of Which Saturated Fat 2.5 grams 13%
Of Which Trans Fat 0 grams 0%

The percentage of daily values is based on a 2,000 calorie diet.

What stands out is the 70 calories, 4 grams of fat and more importantly, just 5 grams of sugar.

Now let’s get to the nutritional facts for the other flavors, which all have the same nutritional facts.

Nutrient Amount Percentage Of Daily Value
Total Calories 140 7%
Cholesterol 15 mg 5%
Protein 6 grams N/A
Sodium 50 mg 2%
Total Carbohydrates 17 grams 2%
Of Which Fiber 0 grams 0%
Of Which Sugar 17 grams 47% (men), 58% (Women)
Total Fat 6 grams 7%
Of Which Saturated Fat 4.5 grams 26%
Of Which Trans Fat 0 grams 0%

The obvious concern here is the amount of sugar. Even though the amount is 47% and 58% of the daily maximum amount for men and women there is very little room for the rest of the day.

Women only have 12 grams and men 19 grams from the rest of the day, which is not a lot. It is easy to see how you can easily go over the 29 grams and 36 grams limit for men and women.

Starbucks Doubleshot Energy Drinks

This is the coffee giants range of coffee-based energy drinks. The drinks come in a variety of flavors and 15 Oz (450 ml) can.

The flavors are as follows:

  • White chocolate.
  • Mocha.
  • Hazelnut.
  • Coffee flavor.
  • Vanilla.

You can buy the canned coffee energy drinks everywhere, from supermarkets, to gas stations, 7-Eleven, Walmart, Target and grocery stores.

It’s a well-thought-out drink with the design aim to give you a prolonged and sustained energy boost from:

  • Caffeine.
  • Inositol.
  • Panax Ginseng.
  • B Vitamins.
  • Guarana.

Basically the boost is from nutrients, caffeine and herbs.

Starbucks Doubleshot Energy Caffeine

Each flavor has the same amount of caffeine, which is 135 mg of the stimulant per 15 Oz (450 ml) can.

135 mg may not seem like a lot of caffeine, but keep in mind that your stimulation comes from guarana, panax ginseng and the nutrients also.

If you are not experiencing the caffeine kick that you are expecting, wait at least half an hour as caffeine takes 20 to 30 mins to take effect.

I don’t want to suffer the side effects of over stimulation.

Starbucks Doubleshot Energy Ingredients

Obviously the principle ingredient in Starbucks Doubleshot energy drinks is coffee and water, more precisely 100% Arabica coffee. For the coffee enthusiasts, it is brewed coffee not espresso that is used to make this.

Here is a complete list of the ingredients.

  • Brewed Starbucks Coffee (Water and 100% Arabica coffee).
  • Carrageenan.
  • Cellulose Gel and gum.
  • Dextrose.
  • Guarana.
  • Inositol.
  • Maltodextrin.
  • Natural Flavors.
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3).
  • Panax Ginseng.
  • Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6).
  • Reduced Fat Milk And Skim Milk.
  • Riboflavin (Vitamin B2).
  • Sucralose.
  • Sugar.
  • Sodium Ascorbate.
  • Taurine.
  • Tricalcium Phosphate.
  • Vitamin A.
  • Vitamin D3.
Nutrient Amount Daily Value
Calories 210 9.5%
Calcium 401 mg 30%
Cholesterol 15 mg 5%
Iron 0.4 mg 2%
Niacin 38 mg 240%
Potassium 1052 mg 20%
Protein 4 g N/A
Riboflavin 3.4 mg 260%
Sugar 26 grams 72% (Men), 89% (women).
Vitamin A 120 mcg 15%
Vitamin B6 4 mg 240%
Vitamin D 2 Mcg 10%

The obvious concern here is the high sugar content as the maximum suggested amount per day is 36 grams for men and 29 grams for women. A single can could easily put you over this amount depending on what you have consumed earlier in the day.

Starbucks Doubleshot Energy Calories

The amount of calories in a Starbucks Doubleshot energy is 210 calories per can. This is 50% more than a Doubleshot espresso and triple the amount in an espresso and cream light.

Starbucks Doubleshot Energy Healthy

Starbucks Doubleshot energy is not a healthy beverage in my opinion due to the excessively high sugar content.

The 26 grams of sugar is a cause for concern for both men and women as it allows you only 3 grams for the rest of the day if you are a woman and 12 grams if you are a man.

Prolonged excessive sugar intake puts you at an increased risk of:

  • Diabetes.
  • Heart disease.
  • Fatty liver.
  • Obesity.
  • Inflammation.
  • High blood pressure.

Once in a while, it should not be a problem. I strongly advise that you monitor your sugar intake and stick to the maximum limits set by the American Heart Association of 29 grams of sugar per day for women and 36 grams per day for men.
