Keurig Still Says Descale After Descaling

If your Keurig’s descale light is still on after you have completed a full descaling process, it might be that your solution was not strong enough. If you used a 25% distilled white vinegar and 75% water solution, run a second and very normal descaling process, but this time use a 50% distilled white vinegar and 50% water solution. Fill your water reservoir to the max fill line with this solution.

Also pay good attention to your needles and give them a good clean and use a fine needle, pin or an unfolded paper clip and poke around inside the exit needle and the entry needle and free any coffee granules that may be clogging your machine.

Rinse well with 3 to 5 flushing cycles by filling your water reservoir with fresh water.

If your coffee maker descale light is still on after this. Unplug it for 15 minutes to reset your machine. You can also hold down the 8 ounce and 10 ounce buttons for 3 seconds.

How Do I Reset My Keurig 2.0 After Descaling

Keurig 2.0 coffee makers have more complicated electronics and computer chips running them and thus the reset process can be a little more complicated to fully reset after descaling.

Check The Settings

If your Keurig 2.0 single serve coffee maker has a digital display, look through the menu and reset any setting that doesn’t look right. An example of this is your machine is switching off by itself randomly, check the auto-off and energy saving feature and disable those.

Reset The Display

If the display is malfunctioning and is blank, unplug your coffee maker and wait 15 minutes and plug it in again. Then turn your brewer on again and open the menu and proceed to set the clock and adjust the settings to your preference.

Return to the screen that reads “lift to begin” then proceed to opening and closing the brewer lever.

Remove Any Air Bubbles

There may be an air bubble in your tubes that is causing a disruption to the water flow. Switch off your coffee machine and unplug your machine. Wait 15 minutes. While you are waiting, remove your water tank and hold your Keurig brewer upside down and over the sink for a few minutes. Tap your machine firmly on the side to dislodge air bubbles.

What Causes Scale On My Keurig, And How Do I Prevent It?

What causes scale on your Keurig and the descale light to come on is your water and the quality of the water in your area. If you live in an area with hard water, you will experience a more frequent build up of minerals, lime and calcium on your machine.

Soft water is better but will still cause a buildup of lime.

Even spring water, mineral water and filtered water can still cause scale to build up but to a much lesser extent.

The scale buildup is not harmful nor is it toxic or detrimental to your health. It will have a negative effect on the performance of your coffee machine and your coffee taste flat.

Even though your Keurig does have a built-in water filter, I advise using a jug with a built-in water filter as a way of pre-filtering the water that you put into your brewer. It ensures that the water is cleaner and of better quality before it gets filtered by your machine and thus better for your machine.

I call it a way of preventative maintenance and helping to prolong the life of my machine as the mineral deposits can build up on the heating element, the pump and other parts.

Frequently Asked Questions About How To Reset Keurig After Descaling

If your descaling light is still flashing after you have run a long and deep descaling process with a water reservoir full of 50% water and 50% distilled white vinegar solution, first look at the entry needle and entry needle and clean them using a fine sewing needle and poke around to unclog them.

Then use your needle cleaning tool to give them a good clean. Once you have completed those steps, unplug your machine and switch it off and wait for about 15 minutes and replug in your machine and switch it on. This process should reset your machine.

The one awkward and inconvenient thing about a Keurig is that they don’t have a reset button. This makes the reset process trickier. The easiest way to reset your machine is to switch it off, take out the plug and wait for 15 minutes.

If your descale light won’t switch off, you will need to put your coffee maker into descale mode and descale your machine before it will recognize that you have descaled it. Don’t forget to clean the needles and unclog them using an unfolded paper clip or a very fine needle.

If you are using reusable coffee pods, make sure that you are not over filling them.

If your Keurig is not working or pumping water, the reason is most likely because of mineral deposits and lime scale build up affecting the water pump and the inner tubing and pipes.

Start by cleaning the needles, an often overlooked part, and then descale your coffee machine using a 50% distilled white vinegar and 50% water and fill the water reservoir to just below the max fill line.

What Buttons Do I Push On My Keurig To Descale?

To start the descaling mode start by making sure that your Keurig brewer is switched on and switched off. Hold down the 8 Oz and 12 Oz at the same time for 3 seconds. When blinking, press the brew button. This will activate the descaling process.

How Often Should I Descale My Keurig?

The manufacturer, Keurig recommends that you go through a complete descaling and needle cleaning process every 3 to 6 months. I recommend a light descale every other week, once every 15 days with a 25% bicarbonate of soda solution and water.

Then perform a deep full descaling every 3 to 6 months with 50% distilled white vinegar and 50% water. My goal is to keep my machine in optimal condition serving fresh clean water without waiting for deposits to build up.
