Best Way To Make Iced Coffee With Keurig Coffee Machines

Making iced coffee with a Keurig K-Elite or Keurig K-Supreme or the Keurig K-Slim +Iced is very easy. These are the three models of iced coffee maker from Keurig that have the facility of brewing iced coffee at the push of a button.

All that is required of you is to select a K-cup pod that is a dark roast, fill your mug with ice and press the iced button.

Even if you don’t have one of the three models of Keurig’s mentioned, you can still use your Keurig to make an excellent iced coffee.

In the absence of an iced button, you can use options that are available to you that your machine has. These include the half cup brewing option, strong coffee option, and if all else fails you can set your Keurig to brew the smallest cup of coffee.

It is important that you get familiar with your coffee machine before you attempt to brew an iced coffee.

Equipment Needed

To make the best iced coffee with Keurig, you need to have a Keurig coffee machine. It is recommended but not essential that you have a Keurig K-Slim +Iced, Keurig K-Supreme or Keurig Elite.

For the record, we will be suggesting the use of a Keurig Elite for making the Best Iced coffee with a Keurig.

Other equipment that you will need:

  • 16 Oz (480 ml) temperature resistant coffee mug.
  • Ice cube tray, optional but advised.

How To Make Iced Coffee With Keurig Elite Step By Step

Step 1: Make Coffee Ice Cubes

This is an optional but advised extra step.

Use the same Keurig K-cup that you will be using to brew your iced coffee and the same settings. Fill a mug with ice and press the iced button to brew an iced coffee over ice.

Once your coffee has been brewed, pour it into an ice cube tray to make ice cubes, more specifically coffee ice cubes.

Put your ice cube tray of coffee cubes into your freezer. In a few hours you will have coffee cubes.

It is important that you use the same K cup for making your iced coffee as you do for making your coffee ice cubes as they will melt and dilute another flavor into your coffee.

Step 3: Prepare Your Mug

The best way to make iced coffee is to brew it over ice. There are variations that involve the brewing of your coffee first and then pouring it, the hot coffee, over ice in a separate glass.

The second method is much better when you are using a professional or home espresso machine. With a Keurig, the best technique is to brew over ice.

Much better is you use coffee ice cubes.

Step 4: Time To Brew You Iced Coffee

This step is the easy part. Get your mug, fill it with ice. Preferably use a cup size of at least 16 ounces to ensure that you have enough ice in your mug.

Use coffee cubes!

Your coffee ice cubes will melt and add more coffee to your drink and will not dilute your coffee.

To brew your coffee simply press the Iced button and let your coffee brew over ice. Once your coffee is ready, simply decant from your mug and into a tall glass with ice.

Step 5: The Finishing Touches

Time for the finishing touches for your iced coffee. Add milk, or better still cold milk, to your Keurig iced coffee. Cold milk is best as it is at a similar temperature as your coffee and will prevent your ice from melting too quickly.

Bonus: How To Make Your Iced Coffee Extra Cold And Extra Tasty

This is a bonus step to consider if you want an extra step to take after step 4 has been completed.

Once you have made your coffee ice cubes and brewed your iced coffee over your coffee cubes, decant your freshly brewed beverage, with the coffee cubes into a cocktail shaker and deploy the Italian Shakerato technique and shake strongly and with energy for a minute or two.

Your coffee will become much colder and quicker. Your coffee beverage will also be frothy. Decant and pour into a tall glass with coffee cubes. Your drink will last you longer

Your iced coffee will be colder and with coffee ice cubes, it will last you longer and will not have a diluted taste as the ice melts.

Frequently Asked Questions About Best Way To Make Iced Coffee With Keurig

Yes, even though there are Keurig machines with an iced button for you to make iced coffee, it is not essential that your machine has one. You can simply set your machine to brew a stronger cup of coffee.

If your Keurig does not have a strong coffee setting, use the setting for brewing half a cup or set your machine to brew the smallest cup size.

These hacks essentially do what the iced button is programmed to do.

The iced button setting on the Keurig K-Elite TM Coffee Maker and other models like the Keurig K Supreme pod coffee machine does is brew a stronger and slightly smaller cup of hot coffee that is designed to be brewed over ice so that flavor of coffee is not lost as the ice melts.

While brewing,  your machine starts off brewing hot coffee and then changes to cool water to reduce the temperature of your coffee to help reduce the melting of your ice and the dilution of your coffee.

No, you cannot make a cold brew coffee with your Keurig. Cold coffee, iced coffee and cold brew coffee are three different coffee drinks. Cold brew is brewed with cold water, and preferably ice-cold water, almost iced water and left to extract and brew overnight while in your fridge.

You can enjoy an iced coffee with your Keurig and a cold coffee, which is a simple regularly brewed coffee that is left in the fridge to cool, it is not brewed with ice-cold water

Yes, you can certainly make iced coffee with hot coffee as iced coffee is brewed as a concentrated hot coffee which is brewed over ice. It is brewed to be concentrated to take into account melting water diluting the flavorful coffee during the brewing process.

What Is The Best Coffee For Iced Coffee?

The best coffee for an iced coffee is one that is dark roast and full-bodied. A dark roast and full body coffee will help to avoid the tartness and the stronger, deeper flavor will cut through and taste better when brewed over ice.

Light roasts and medium roasts don’t cut through the melting water and have their flavor diluted and end up tasting watery and weak. Dark roasted coffee from Sumatra, Puerto Rico and Colombia as well as Costa Rica work incredibly well.

Are Keurigs Good For Iced Coffee?

Yes, it used to be that a Keurig coffee maker was very average and not that good for making iced coffee drinks. But over the past few years and improvements to their coffee makers, particularly their single serve coffee makers, has dramatically improved the quality of their iced coffee drinks to a point in which I can say they make quality iced coffee beverages.

Do You Need Special Pods For Keurig Iced Coffee?

No, it is not a must to use a special pod to make Keurig iced coffee, although I advise using dark roast coffee and particularly French roast or an Italian roast for best results.

Is Iced Coffee Just Coffee With Ice In It?

Iced coffee is regular coffee that is brewed to be stronger to withstand the melting of the ice in order to mitigate the possibility of a watery coffee drink.
