What Is Keurig Carafe?
A Keurig Carafe is a double-wall plastic carafe specifically designed to be used with Keurig 2.0 coffee makers.
They are not designed to keep your coffee beverages warm for longer, the manufacturer has a thermal carafe specifically for this use. One of the stand-out features is a brew through lid and the handle, which is easy to pour.
With the Keurig Carafe, you can brew a full carafe of coffee, which is enough for 4 cups of coffee thanks to the ample 32 oz capacity.
They are designed to use Keurig K-Carafe pods which each hold 26 grams of fresh coffee and can brew up to 4 cups of coffee each.
How Do You Use The Keurig Carafe?
A Keurig carafe fits the Keurig 2.0 coffee makers. The company has reusable filters and a number of K-Carafe pods that have a wide range of coffee selections available, or you can use your reusable coffee filters and fill them with your own coffee grounds.
The following steps will help you brew a pot of coffee using any carafe.
Step 1: Check Your Reservoir.
Check your water reservoir and ensure that you have the maximum capacity of water and is full. You will need your water tank to be full, so you can brew up a full carafe of coffee.
Step 2: Remove Your Drip Tray (Model Dependent).
With some models, you will need to remove your drip tray for your carafe to fit. Make sure your carafe is clean before you start.
Step 3: Open Up The Pod Mechanism.
Put a new fresh K Carafe coffee pod inside the pod mechanism or, alternative, use a reusable coffee filter with freshly ground coffee grounds. Make sure it fits properly and perfectly. Close the pod mechanism correctly.
Step: 4: Check The Settings.
Check the settings on your Keurig and ensure you have set it to brew for a carafe of coffee. You have multiple settings and options relating to size.
Step 5: Check The Brew Strength Settings.
When your coffee has finished brewing, pour your coffee and enjoy it!
Do not ever add anything more than water to your coffee machine. Your coffee machine has an exterior reservoir and an interior reservoir. The interior reservoir permits for quick heating of your water.
Do not add milk as the machine is not designed for the heating of milk. You will probably end up with milk or some remains of milk inside your machine which will go sour, rotten and moldy. It will be very difficult to clean the milk from the additional reservoir without taking your machine apart.
The only time you should put something other than water in the water tank is when you are cleaning your machine.
When you are cleaning your machine always run a long thorough cleaning and rinsing cycle.
Does The Keurig 2.0 Carafe Keep Coffee Hot?
Despite the carafe that comes with your Keurig 2.0 brewer being double-wall plastic carafe it does not have thermal capabilities to keep your coffee hot.
Keurig do have a thermal carafe available as an alternative secondary carafe if you need one.
Keurig Carafe Pods
Your Keurig 2.0 coffee maker can brew K-Carafe pods which are similar to K-Cup Pods, but not to be mistaken with them as the K-Carafe pods are specifically designed for their carafe. They have a greater amount of coffee grounds.
You can buy your Carafe pods online at Amazon, Target, Walmart and many other online retailers. They are easily identifiable due to their label having an image of a carafe.
There are many different brands like Donut shop coffee blend. When and if you are first starting I suggest you start off with a K-cup coffee sample pack of carafe pods.
Keurig Carafe Reusable Filter
A reusable refillable K-carafe pod filter for your Keurig Carafe is a great idea and a brilliant option for making your own tasty super fresh coffee by using coffee ground only moments prior to brewing. You can also adjust the coffee strength by using either more grounds or using a slightly smaller grind size and getting more in this way.
One of the plus points of a reusable K-cup coffee filter is you will be reducing the impact on the environment due to less plastic waste.
Coffee experts and coffee lovers like myself encourage you to use your own reusable filters because you can make coffee that is much fresher. You will know when your coffee was roasted by checking the roasted on date.
Also you can get fresher by freshly grinding your whole coffee beans before you start to brew.
How To Clean A Keurig 2.0
To maintain coffee quality and a high standard, you really need to keep your machine clean both on the inside and the outside.
The water can cause mineral build up and scale build up on the pipes. Cleaning is super easy. You can simply fill the water tank with a 50/50 mix of distilled white vinegar and water.
Then run a brewing cycle 2 or three times.
Then rinse with water for 2, 3, 4 or more cycles to remove the scent of vinegar from your machine.
You can also use bicarbonate of soda using 50 grams to 100 grams of bicarbonate soda depending on how dirty it is. Then run a brew cycle and collect the dirty water then throw it away.
Run several cycles of plain clean water to rinse out your coffee machine.
