Keeping your ingredients as close as you can to what Starbucks uses will help you to replicating the drink that is sold in their store.
To make it better than what you get at Starbucks, you need to use better quality ingredients. If your aim is to replicate what is sold by them, use their coconut milk and their Starbucks espresso roast coffee beans.
Here are the ingredients that you will need:
- Whole bean dark roast coffee.
- Coconut milk.
- Cascara.
- Cascara sugar.
- Bottled water or filtered water.

Using Starbucks espresso roast is perfectly acceptable and ideal if your aim is to match what Starbucks have in their coffee shops.
Sumatra Coconut Milk
This is where you have the choice of matching what is sold at Starbuck outlets or going one step better.
Starbucks will tell you in all their literature online and in house that their coconut milk is a single origin coconut milk with the coconuts sourced from Sumatra, Indonesia.
While this is true, absolutely true it is not organic coconut milk or purely coconut milk as there are a lot of additives.
While it is a bonafide non-dairy alternative that is suitable for vegans and vegetarians, it does contain cane sugar, water, coconut water concentrate, coconut cream, sea salt, tricalcium phosphate, natural flavors, gellan gum, xanthan gum, carrageenan, vitamin D2, Vitamin A, guar gum.
It’s not exactly real food.
To be clear, you do need to use barista coconut milk as alternative milk in their natural state are difficult to steam and froth.
You can make your own by adding a tiny amount, 1/8th to ΒΌ of a teaspoon of gellan gum and/or xanthan gum, which are emulsifiers and stabilizers.
Making your own barista alternative milk ensures that you have full control of the ingredients and cut out all the extra unnecessary ones.

Cascara Coconut Milk Latte Recipe Instructions
Let’s get making an amazing and delicious cascara coconut milk latte.
Let’s start by making your cascara syrup, which can be used for coffee, cocktails, pancakes, drizzled over ice cream and to make tasty soda drinks.
How To Make Your Cascara Syrup
Use one cup of bottled water and one cup of cascara sugar.
Add both ingredients to a sauce pan and stir well to ensure they are well mixed together while cold.
Add to your water and sugar a tablespoon of cascara and mix well. Gently heat your mixture at a low heat until it is simmering and let it simmer for 5 minutes and then let it cool naturally.
Taste test your cascara syrup to find out if the flavor is hitting the perfect spot for you.
If it is not, leave your solution to further extract the flavor from the cascara. Check every few hours and taste test.
When your syrup has that perfect flavor, filter out your cascara by using a cheesecloth. You may need to filter for a second time to remove all sediment.
Store in a glass bottle with an airtight lid.
How To Make The Perfect Espresso For Your Flavored Latte
Making the perfect espresso for your flavored latte is very easy. The key to making a great espresso is in the beans that you use, your equipment and your technique.
Equipment needed:
- Ceramic flat burr coffee grinder.
- Digital coffee scale.
These use of these two pieces of equipment help to get the perfect shot due to getting you a high quality and consistent grind size and precision when it comes to getting the perfect dose to use.
Start by weighing your whole coffee beans and weigh 15 grams of coffee per shot. The coffee to water ratio we are using is the standard 1:2 ratio.
Grind your coffee beans to a fine grind size that is like sand. 200 microns is a good size.
Add your coffee grounds to your portafilter and tamp well with an even 30 kg of pressure.
Pull your shot and check the brew time. When you pull your shot, have your digital scale below your coffee cup and tare your scale.
Your shot should weigh 30 grams and take 25 seconds to brew. There is an allowance of 5 seconds either side of the 25-second brew time.
The closer to the 25 seconds, the more delicious your espresso will be.
If your shot takes too long, more than 30 seconds, your grind size is likely to be too small. Adjust your grind size and make it a little larger.
If your brew time is too short, it is likely that your grind size is too large. Adjust your grind size and make it smaller.
When you have the perfect shot. Add a tablespoon of cascara syrup. Steam your coconut milk and add twice as much steamed coconut milk as there is espresso.
On top of your latte, decorate in a straight line with a sprinkle of cascara sugar and cascara.
