How To Make Iced Coffee With Pods

We all appreciate the refreshing taste and enjoyment of an iced coffee on a hot summer’s day, but at US$6 a pop from your local coffee shop that is going to burn a hole in your summer fun pretty quickly.

Thankfully you can make a cup at home with your Keurig coffee machine.

How To Make Iced Coffee With A Keurig Coffee Machine

What You Will Need

  • Ice or coffee Ice Cubes.
  • 3 Teaspoons Of Sugar.
  • 2 Tablespoons Of Milk (Optional).
  • Thermos Or Heat-Resistant Glass.
  • A K-Cup Of Your Choice.

A dark roast coffee is the best choice. Look for a coffee that is full-bodied, as the ice as it melts will water down your coffee.

Step 1: Set Up Your Machine

Setting up your machine is easy. Switch on your coffee maker and ensure that you have enough water. Put your coffee pod in place and get ready to brew.

Step 2: Get Your Coffee Cup Ready

There are two ways of getting your coffee cup ready for your iced coffee. The first way is to brew your coffee over ice. If you are brewing this way, make sure that your cup or glass used is heat-resistant otherwise it will break due to the heat shock.

The other way is to brew into a cup and then transfer your brewed coffee into a separate glass with ice and slowly pour your hot coffee over the ice.

Use a good-sized glass to avoid any coffee from spilling over when you pour your coffee over the ice.

Step 3: Brew Your Coffee

When you have decided whether you are going to brew over ice or transfer your brew into a cup with ice, select the smallest cup size or press the iced button and then press brew.

Which you press will depend on which Keurig machine you have. This step only takes about a minute. While it is brewing, go ahead and get your milk and sugar.

Step 4: Enjoy Your Keurig Iced Coffee

Add milk and sugar as needed. Cold milk is much better than steamed milk as this is a cold coffee drink.

Which Keurig Machine Can I Use For Iced Coffee?

There are a few Keurig Machines that you can use for making iced coffee. Two machines in particular are what I recommend. The Keurig K-Elite coffee maker and the K Supreme Plus Smart.

Both offer you programmable features for the ultimate in beverage customization, and a dedicated iced button. The Keurig K-Supreme Plus Smart has a shot button for making espresso beverages.

Which one meets your needs best will depend on whether or not you will take advantage of the shot button and make espresso shots or espresso like coffee.

Pro Tips For Making Amazing Iced Coffee

The most annoying thing about iced coffee is the ice cubes melting and spoiling your cup of coffee. The easiest and most obvious solution is to make what I like to call coffee cubes, which are simply coffee ice cubes.

Make Ice Coffee Cubes

Making them is very simple and handy if you enjoy taking your time and slowly sipping your beverage.

Brew a large batch of coffee and fill an ice tray with your coffee and fill it with your brewed coffee. Food-grade silicon trays are better than plastic trays as you can get your iced coffee cubes out easier.

If you have a metal ice tray that is fine, you can use that too.

But,

if you have a plastic ice tray, let your coffee cool down before you make your ice cubes.

When your coffee ice cubes are ready, you need to take an extra step and either transfer them to a ziplock bag or put your ice trace with the iced coffee cubes in them. This step will stop funky freezer flavors from spoiling your coffee ice cubes.

Even better is to put a ziplock bag around your coffee ice cubes as they are freezing. It is worth it to take your time and take this extra step as you are freezing your coffee cubes.

The Italiano Shakerato Technique

The Italiano shakerato technique can be used on its own or in conjunction with coffee ice cubes. This is a simple and easy technique for instantly cooling down your brew.

Simply put two or three ice cubes into your cocktail shaker. Pour your hot coffee slowly over the ice and into your cocktail shaker.

Shake with vigor for a minute or two and pour your instantly chilled coffee into a fresh cup with either regular ice cubes or coffee ice cubes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Can Keurig Make Iced Coffee

No, the Keurig K Latte does not have an iced coffee option. This is something that I found odd as an iced latte is a very popular coffee beverage. You can still make iced coffee drinks using the shot button. Thanks to the cold froth option, you can make a tasty iced caramel macchiato or an iced vanilla latte.

Does Keurig K Supreme Make Iced Coffee?

Yes, the K-Supreme Plus smart has a preset for making iced coffee. The iced coffee preset simply tells the coffee maker to make a more focused brew which helps to prevent the ice cubes from turning the coffee into a watery coffee by melting and diluting the coffee too much.

What Coffee To Use To Make Iced Coffee?

I advise that you use a full-bodied coffee in order to avoid tartness. If you want an iced coffee that has a creamy, sweet and chocolaty flavor, a medium to medium dark roast from Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica or El Salvador.

If you want a refreshing fruity flavor that is like tea, consider a Kenyan or Ethiopian coffee.

For an iced coffee, put ice in a heat-resistant tumbler and insert a K-Cup coffee pod and press the over ice button and then the brew button.

It really is that easy!

Is Iced Coffee Just Cold Regular Coffee?

While iced coffee is made with hot coffee, just putting ice in it doesn’t make it an iced coffee. If you do that, you will end up with a weak and watery cup of coffee. You must start with a more concentrated coffee and then add ice.

Make your coffee more concentrated by using a more focused coffee to water ratio. You can also use coffee ice cubes, which is what I love using as when they melt they don’t make my coffee watery.

Can You Make Iced Coffee With Regular Pods?

Iced coffee can be made with regular coffee pods if you have an iced, over ice or shot option on your Keurig coffee maker. If you don’t have those options on your coffee machine, you can opt to make a smaller cup size.

Your machine will brew a hot coffee, you just need to have ice ready for it to brew over.
