Keep reading to find out what drinks make the list of the most caffeinated hot drinks that you will find on the Starbucks menu.

High Caffeine Starbucks Drinks – An Overview

When I talk about high caffeine Starbucks drinks I am talking about drinks that most likely have more caffeine than you can handle!

I do not mean that in a condescending way at all, but in a whole hearted manner with the fullest respect for your health and well-being.

All of the top 5 high caffeine Starbucks drinks and more have enough of a caffeine content in them to put you over the daily limit of 400 mg of caffeine per day as set out by the Food and Drug Administration in a single serving.

The effects of such can be gut-wrenching – literally.

If you are expecting to see a Starbucks frappuccino, latte or cappuccino on this list, sorry. These are fairly mild in the caffeine stakes.

Most of these are clover brewed coffees and good old-fashioned filter coffee drinks and in the largest drink size. Most people would dismiss a Venti blonde roast brewed coffee as being highly caffeinated, and they would be foolish!

It has an incredible caffeine content of 475 mg. The clover brewed coffee doesn’t have much less with 425 mg to 470 mg depending on which drink.

Top 10 Most Caffeinated Hot Drink At Starbucks Highest To Lowest

You have been warned, all of these drinks are highly caffeinated with enough to make most people feel sick.

Let’s get started with this top 10 list of the most caffeinated hot drink at Starbucks.

#1 Venti 20 (600 ml) Blonde Roast Brewed Coffee – 475 mg

This is simply drip coffee, filter coffee in a light roast, a tasty blonde roast that is a blend of East African and Latin American coffee beans.

It’s light and bright and goes incredibly well with a couple of pumps of vanilla syrup and if you must add steamed milk consider an alternative milk like oat milk or almond milk and as far as the energy boost goes, it’s the equivalent of more than six shots of espresso.

Even the smaller drinks sizes kick like a mule and contain the following amounts of caffeine:

  • Grande 16 Oz (480 ml): 360 mg.
  • Tall 12 Oz (360 ml): 270 mg.
  • Short 8 Oz (240 ml): 180 mg.

180 mg is a good caffeine kick, more than a double shot of espresso.

#2 Venti 20 Oz (600 ml) Clover Brewed Coffee Reserve Roast – 470 mg

Clover brewed coffee is nice, tasty and uses a full immersion vacuum-press brewing technique that is exclusive to Starbucks.

You will not get this coffee or a brewing method like it at your local coffee shop. It’s a combination of vacuum brewing and press brewing, hence the term vacuum-press. The technique extracts some unique flavors from the coffee that other methods are not capable of.

Definitely worth trying, not for the stunning 470 mg caffeine kick but for the rather tasty, lovely coffee produced. Enjoy it as black coffee or with a splash of coconut milk, or oat milk.

On its own, it is a Starbucks drink that you can authentically say is healthy due to the low calorie count (5) and the fact that it has no fat or sugar – unless you add steamed milk or syrup.

#2 Venti 20 Oz (600 ml) Clover Brewed Coffee Dark Roast – 470 mg

This is deep, intense and great tasting dark roast coffee. It is neat and a very nice coffee in its own without anything added. Black coffee lovers will enjoy it.

Clover coffees are not available in all of Starbucks outlets, If you like in small town near to a large city, you will need to travel to the city and the biggest and busiest Starbucks to find it.

If you are coffee lover keen to try this brewing technique, I advise that you contact Starbucks and ask them using their Facebook page to find out if they have an outlet with clover brewed coffee near you.

#4 Venti 20 Oz (600 ml) Clover Brewed Coffee Medium Roast – 445 mg

As a very positive note, all of these so far are healthy Starbucks drinks with only a grand total of 5 calories per drink and no sugar and no fat as long as you are not adding steamed milk or syrup of any type to sweeten it.

That is quite a statement from me, a coffee lover that considers Starbucks to be liquid cakes, which most drinks are due to the high amount of sugar, fat and calories.

With a caffeine content of 445 mg it has enough coffee, with 600 ml, 20 Oz for two people, even three with 200 ml each (6.66 Oz) and just less than 150 mg caffeine each.

#5 Venti 20 Oz (600 ml) Clover Brewed Coffee Blonde Roast – 425 mg

As I warned earlier, all the drinks on this list are highly caffeinated and half of them are either regular brewed coffee or clover brewed coffee.

Volume plays a large role in the total caffeine content of a drink. The bigger the drink, the more caffeine you will consume. Even though caffeine concentration, the amount of caffeine per ounce (per 30 ml) may be lower than an espresso, ristretto or lungo but the sheer volume more than makes up for it.

This blonde roast, if you don’t enjoy the natural flavor of it, add a pump of vanilla syrup and a splash of steamed milk to this Starbucks coffee.

While this may not be the strongest coffee, don’t forget that it is still the equivalent of more than 5 shots of espresso.

#6 Venti 20 Oz (600 ml) Pike Place Brewed Coffee – 410 mg

While just outside the top Strongest coffee drink, Pike Place is strong coffee while not quite tasting like a strong coffee.

It’s a medium roast with more than its fair share of caffeine and goes brilliantly with cream.

Personally, I enjoy making this (at home) using the pour over method rather than drip coffee.

The pour over gets more flavor into coffee than any other brewing method due to having a greater amount of total dissolved solids than other brewing methods.

If you love to make coffee at home, try this Starbucks drink in store and if you enjoy it you can buy a bag of their beans.

#7 Venti 20 Oz (600 ml) Blonde Caffé Americano – 340 mg

This is still a serious drink in terms of caffeine, despite a drop in the caffeine stakes from 410 mg to 340 mg It is still 4 shots of blonde espresso and anyone that has tried drinking four shots back to back or in a short period of time will know there is a very serious caffeine buzz.

If you have not quite tried an Americano before and get put off with the thought of a strong black coffee fear not it is a very light tasting coffee, and you can add a couple of pumps of vanilla to sweeten the drink and take the edge off of the bitter notes.

Adding steamed milk turns this into tasty blonde misto Americano! Nice.

#8 Venti 20 Oz (600 ml) Featured Dark Roast Brewed Coffee – 340 mg

This is an amazing coffee if you are a lover of deep, dark roast coffees. Due to the depth of flavor and intensity I suspect that this is an Italian roast.

It’s strong, tasty and full bodies and enjoyable with milk too as the strength cuts easily past the milk.

#9 Venti 20 Oz (600 ml) Cordusio Mocha – 320 mg

This is a very strong mocha made with 4 shots of espresso and equal amounts of both steamed milk and rich dark chocolate. A cordusio mocha is more caffeinated than regular mocha drinks due to being made with extra shots of espresso.

The caffeine high or buzz is neatly calmed down due to the presence of the chocolate. Mochas are better if you need to concentrate, study or work.

#10 Venti 20 Oz (600 ml) Caffé Americano – 300 mg

Made with 4 shots of Starbucks signature espresso roast you can expect this to be strong, bold and tasty as well as packing a strong caffeine kick.

Frequently Asked Questions About High Caffeine Starbucks Drinks

How Much Caffeine Is In Starbucks Coffee Grounds?

Coffee grounds are not measured by the caffeine content as there are various factors that determine how much caffeine is in a cup of coffee, including:

  • Brew temperature.
  • Brewing methods.
  • The amount of coffee used.
  • The coffee to water ratio.
  • The volume of the drink in total.
  • The type of beans.

You can make a dozen or more different cups of coffee with the same beans and get different tasting coffees with a different amount of caffeine.

Which Coffee Shop Coffee Has The Most Caffeine?

Having checked McDonald’s, Costa Coffee, Horton’s, Dunkins, Caribou and various other coffee outlets, it is Starbucks that are unquestionably the kings of caffeine.

Some come close but none match the caffeine content of their Venti blonde roast brewed coffee which has 475 mg and their clover brewed coffee dark roast and reserve roast which have 470 mg of caffeine.

Which Frappuccino Has The Most Caffeine?

The Venti espresso Frappuccino with 185 mg of caffeine is the Frappuccino that has the greatest caffeine content.

How Much Caffeine Is Too Much A Day?

The recommended daily amount of caffeine per day is 400 milligrams of caffeine. Anything over this amount is too much.

For pregnant ladies, 200 mg per day is the recommended daily maximum, thus anything over 200 mg per day is too much for expectant ladies.

Is Americano Stronger Than Espresso?

No, an Americano is not stronger than espresso. It is not weaker either. An Americano is made with shots of espresso ranging from 1 to 4 and has 75 mg to 300 mg of caffeine depending on the drink size ordered.

Obviously a Tall Americano with 2 shots of espresso is stronger than a single shot of espresso and has the same amount of caffeine as double espresso.

Which Is Stronger Latte Or Cappuccino?

Both a latte and a cappuccino are made with the same number of shots for the respective drink sizes and thus have the same amount of caffeine.

A cappuccino has a stronger flavor due to the espresso to milk ratio of 1:1 compared to the espresso to milk ratio of a latte which is 1:2 making it a milder coffee in terms of flavor.
