Ingredients Needed For Making A Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew With Caramel Drizzle

Here is what you will need to make this tasty treat:

  • Starbucks Cold Brew Coffee, canned or their Breakfast Blend Coffee Grounds, coarsely ground (whole beans are best).
  • Water, use mineral water or filtered water.
  • Sugar.
  • Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup.
  • Sugar Free Caramel Sauce.
  • Heavy cream.
  • 2% milk

The key ingredients here are your coffee and your water. If you want to make this drink as close as you can to Starbucks, then use their coffee.

Starbucks cold brew is available in many formats from canned drinks to ready-to-brew sachets where all you have to do is add water and wait.

If you want to make a fresh coffee on your own, Starbucks breakfast blend is a good coffee to use. Buy whole beans and then grind with your conical ceramic burr grinder to a good even coarse grind size.

If you are an adept home barista, you can use your favorite specialty coffee beans. The better tasting your coffee beans are and the better your water, since 98% of coffee is water, the better your beverage will be.

How To Make Your Cold Brew Coffee Like A Professional Barista

Making cold brew coffee from fresh is easy and takes patience, a lot of patience, due to the very long extraction time.

  • Grind Size: Coarse
  • Coffee To Water Ratio: 1:8

Adhere to the grind size and the coffee to water ratio, and brew your coffee using ice-cold water and store it in your fridge while it is extracting. Use a glass container with an airtight lid. Those two details are minor but very important. Coffee is acidic and will draw out all the unpleasant chemicals in a plastic container.

Coffee is great at extracting flavors and aromas from food that is near it; this is how some flavored coffee beans are made…and why it is very important for you to use an airtight lid.

The following table will help you to calculate the idea amount of coffee grounds to use by weight.

  • For 16 Oz (480 ml) of coffee use 2 Oz (60 grams) of coffee grounds.
  • For 24 Oz (720 ml) of coffee, use 3 Oz (90 grams) of coffee grounds.
  • For 32 Oz (960 ml) of coffee, use 4 Oz (120 grams) of coffee grounds.
  • For 48 Oz (1.44 Liters) of coffee, use 6 Oz (180 grams) of coffee grounds.

Use the largest grind size that your grinder permits and add your coffee grinds to your container. Add your ice-cold water and close the container. Store your container in your fridge to help extract the low temperature compounds.

The brew time can be from 12 to 24 hours. Typically, from 16 hours and more. Test after 12 hours and every couple of ours after that for taste. Once it tastes perfect for you, filter out your coffee grounds using a metal filter or sieve.

Do not forget to remove the coffee grounds; if you do, your coffee will continue to extract and will eventually become overtly bitter.

How To Make Your Own Vanilla Syrup (Optional)

For a true copycat recipe I recommend buying your vanilla syrup from Starbucks or online at Amazon, Target, Walmart.

You can of course make your own sugar-free version which has the convenience of you being able to use your sweetener of choice, healthier than an artificial sweetener.

Sweetener Options:

  • Stevia.
  • Agave.
  • Coconut Sugar.
  • Brown Sugar.

Coconut and brown sugar I’ve included as sugar-free as they are healthier sugars. Understand first how these sugars and alternative sweeteners affect the taste of your coffee before you make your syrup.

Use an equal amount of sweetener and water and add a sliced vanilla pod. 2 cups of each is a good amount.

Add your ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a boil and let it simmer on a low heat for 10 to 15 min. Stir well throughout the process to ensure your sweetener or sugar is getting well mixed and dissolves.

Let your syrup rest and cool down while covered for 45 mins. Decant into a glass bottle with the sliced vanilla pod. Let your syrup continue to extract for 12 to 24 hours. Taste test every few hours.

When you have the perfect taste of sweetness and vanilla, filter out the pods using a cheesecloth. To remove all the residue you might need to filter twice or more.

You can get exotic with your recipe and use French vanilla or Madagascar vanilla; the choice is yours.

How To Make Starbucks Vanilla Sweet Cream

Making the Starbucks vanilla sweet cream may seem like the difficult part, it’s not – it is just as easy as making the cold brew or the Vanilla syrup.

All you need is:

  • 2% milk.
  • Heavy cream.
  • Vanilla Syrup.

Simply use equal amounts of 2% milk and heavy cream 1/3 cup (2 ounces, 60 ml) of each is fine and add a tablespoon or two of vanilla syrup as per your own taste preference.

Add your ingredients to a mixing bowl and blend well using a handheld milk frother or an electric blender and blend well for a minute or two until you get a foamy texture.

Putting It All Together And Making Your Drink

Add a drizzle of Caramel syrup or sauce to the inside of a tall clear class, pour your cold brew coffee inside with some ice cubes. Slowly pour in your vanilla sweet cream foam. Optional is to pour your cream foam over the back of a tablespoon to diffuse it.

Serve and enjoy your vanilla sweet cream cold brew with caramel drizzle.

Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew Sugar

Unfortunately Starbucks coffee beverages, especially those with various toppings, flavorings, sauces and syrups, are known to have a high sugar content. Here is how much sugar is in a Starbucks Vanilla sweet cream cold brew for all drink sizes.

  • Tall 12 Oz (360 ml): 9 grams.
  • Grande 16 Oz (480 ml): 14 grams.
  • Venti 24 Oz (720 ml): 23 grams.
  • Trenta 30 Oz (900 ml): 0 grams.

The recommended maximum amount of sugar per day is 24 grams for women and 36 grams for men. The Trenta 30 oz (900 ml) version uses sugar-free vanilla syrup. You can of course customize your beverage to be made with this for all drink sizes.

With a caramel drizzle there is more sugar, approximately 5 grams more for each drink size. For this reason, I suggest that you have a good think about having your drink made with sugar-free options if you are ordering in store.

Frequently Asked Questions About Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew With Caramel Drizzle

What To Add To Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew?

Starbucks vanilla sweet cream goes great with a caramel drizzle and a pinch of sea salt to make a salted caramel sweet cream foam. Due to the amount of sugar, requesting a sugar-free vanilla syrup is a better option in this instance.

A mocha drizzle is also a great option as the cold brew coffee tastes great with the combination of vanilla and chocolate. As an alternative, you can request a dusting of cocoa powder.

There are a lot of variations that you can make.

Is The Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew Sweet?

Yes, Starbucks vanilla sweet cream cold brew coffee is sweet. There is a natural sweetness from the beverage alone without the cold foam or syrups added. The addition of the vanilla syrup adds to the sweetness.

Starbucks vanilla sweet cream cold brew coffee has 90 calories, 5 grams of fat, 9 grams of sugar and 145 milligrams of caffeine in a Tall 12 ounce (360 ml) serving which is very reasonable for a morning or afternoon coffee beverage.

Considering coffee has a great nutritional profile and is loaded with phenolic compounds and antioxidants I’d be happy to say at this size it most certainly qualifies as healthy.

The only problem occurs when you go up the drink sizes where the sugar and calorie counts as well as the caffeine content starts to get too high and rolls over to the “this drink is unhealthy” category.

Does Starbucks Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew Have Vanilla Syrup?

Yes, Starbucks flavor their vanilla sweet cream cold brew coffee with pumps of vanilla syrup. The number of pumps varies depending on the drink size.

  • Tall 12 Oz (360 ml): 1 Pump.

  • Iced Latte.
  • Cold Brew Coffee.
  • Starbucks Chai Latte.
  • Iced Coffee
  • London Fog Tea.

It can be used in hot or cold drinks but tends to be better in cold drinks. The very first drink that Starbucks used their sweet cream cold foam with was a Caffe Americano.

Cold brew coffee goes well with a lot of different syrups including maple syrup and honey. At Starbucks, vanilla and caramel are popular options for coffee lovers. Brown sugar syrup is a great match for a more pronounced caramel flavor.

The flavor free simple syrup is an option too, all this will do is sweeten your drink but won’t add much in the way of flavor.
