Starbucks Salted Caramel Cold Foam Recipe Notes

Starbucks salted caramel cold foam is accompanied with a cold coffee drink, usually cold brew coffee or iced coffee.

The cold foam of any flavor can also go well with a hot coffee, especially if it is a milky coffee. It is much better in a cold drink.

It is made with cold brew coffee, ice, vanilla sweet cream, salt and salted caramel syrup.

This recipe will get you matching the same drink at Starbucks exactly as we will be using their cold brew pitcher packs. The brew time is 20 hours to 24 hours.

In this recipe we will go a step further in our brewing process and brew at a reduced temperature to extract all the low temperature flavor compounds. Starbucks extract their cold brew at room temperature.

Starbucks Salted Caramel Cold Foam Ingredients

Let’s get on with this delicious recipe and get talking about the recipe ingredients.

Cold Brew Coffee

Obviously there are many ways to make your cold brew coffee, and you can find some awesome cold brew recipes on the internet with a few searches.

What makes this an awesome recipe for the beverage is due to replicating exactly what Starbucks uses by using their cold brew pitcher packs and getting the exact beverage used by the world leading coffee company with no guess work!

2% Milk And Heavy Cream

Since Starbucks uses 2% milk and heavy cream, we will be doing the same and using the same ingredients.

Of course when you master this technique and method you can of course get creating and make adjustments and skim milk, almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk and other plant or nut based milks.

Pro Tip: Use the barista branded alternative milk which is available on Amazon, Target, Walmart and eBay. These are specially designed for making cold foam and steamed milk for coffee and will not curdle like other brands.

Caramel Syrup Or Caramel Sauce

It is entirely your choice if you use caramel syrup or caramel sauce. It is far more convenient to buy your syrup or sauce than to make your own.

It is also your own choice if you want to buy a salted caramel sauce or to buy and use an unsalted one and add salt when you need it.

I advise that you use a regular caramel sauce as it is more versatile than a syrup as you can use it in many different drinks and food items.

Also, an unsalted version you can control the amount of salt and what kind of salt you use be it sea salt, Himalayan pink salt or regular table salt. You can also opt to buy a sugar-free caramel sauce (or syrup) if you so want. Monin, Davinci Gourmet and Torani great sugar free versions. Check them out on Amazon.

Vanilla Syrup

For your vanilla syrup, I suggest that you use Starbucks vanilla syrup, which you buy from them directly, online or from all the usual outlets online.

Once you are comfortable with this recipe, you can experiment with more exotic syrups like a Madagascar vanilla syrup or French vanilla syrup.

Sea Salt

Although you can use any salt for this recipe, it is worthwhile making it a healthy salt like a sea salt of pink Himalayan salt.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Make Your Cold Brew Coffee

Take your Starbucks cold brew pitcher packs and following the instructions on the package, take two packs and add them to a pitcher or a glass container with an airtight lid.

Add 48 ounces of ice cold water. Place your container in your fridge and wait 16 to 24 hours for it to extract.

While you are waiting for your cold brew to extract proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Make Your Salted Carmel Cold Foam

In a glass or metal bowl that is ice-cold, add 1/4 cup of 2% milk and 1/4 cup of heavy cream add a tablespoon of vanilla syrup, 1 tablespoon of caramel sauce (or syrup) and a dash of sea salt.

Mix them well with your handheld blender and mix well until you get stiff peaks and a consistency similar to thawed ice cream.

If you have a Starbucks Verismo frother set it to cold. It’s a special bladeless blender by Starbucks that you can get from Walmart.

If you have a French press, you can also use that to make your cold foam. Simply add the ingredients to an ice-cold French press, mix your ingredients well with a long spoon to make sure that the ingredients are mixed well and evenly distributed.

Once you are satisfied, that the ingredients are mixed well. Pump up and down on the plunger until the solution has expanded and at least doubled in size and has the consistency of melted ice cream your slated caramel cold foam is ready.

Step 3: Pour And Enjoy Your Coffee

When your cold brew coffee is ready, pour it into a tall glass and slowly and evenly pour your salted caramel cold foam on top using the back of a teaspoon as a diffuser to help it float on top.

If you wish, you can add a drizzle of caramel sauce to line the glass for a touch of caramel flavor to the cold brew coffee.
