When you learn how to make a light and sweet coffee, your afternoon coffee no longer needs to be dull, boring and monotonous.

With a creamy, light and very savory coffee, your mind will be blown and ready to get back to your work on a coffee-induced cloud 9!

The best part — this coffee delight is not going to bust your diet!

Light And Sweet Coffee Meaning?

Ordering your coffee light and sweet might concoct the sensation that you are ordering a type of coffee that is weak and loaded with excess sugar. Nothing could be further from the truth! One thing light and sweet coffee is not is a simple regular coffee.

Originally, and the proper name of this creamy, cloud-like coffee beverage was Dalgona coffee. It has its origins in South Korea where the word “Dalgona” means honeycomb like candy which is due to the butterscotch color and whipped cream like consistency.

A light and sweet coffee is, in all essence, an aerated, cloud-like coffee mixture that is poured over milk. The end enjoyment is a very enjoyable, delicious creamy coffee treat that is a delightful fancy coffee for both the summer with ice or in the winter.

After teaching my local barista at my favorite coffee joint, it is now serving it, and apparently it is a popular top-selling post lunch cup of coffee served with ice.

Light And Sweet Coffee Recipe

Let’s get right to it and get right to making this rather fancy Dalgona Coffee. Thankfully, this coffee recipe calls for few ingredients, all of which are easily found.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of hot water that is just off the boil. 195F to 205F (92C to 96C).
  • 1.5 teaspoons of coconut sugar.
  • 3/4 of a cup of lowfat milk or fat-free milk. You can use any milk here, almond milk, coconut milk, or any milk substitute*.
  • 1 tablespoon of instant coffee crystals

*I love experimenting here with all sorts of milk alternatives. My milk of choice is coconut milk as it makes for a very nice twist to what resembles a Vietnamese caphe dua.

A very nice option is to use chocolate sauce, butterscotch, caramel or vanilla sauce as a flavoring.

Method

Add your coconut sugar, hot water and instant coffee crystals to a bowl and mix using an electric mixer at the highest setting. Keep mixing until your coffee has a similar level of consistency, or is very close to that of whipped cream.

Then slowly pour your milk into a glass over ice. Slowly spoon your whipped coffee on top of the milk and serve. Sprinkle and garnish as required.

If you don’t have an electric mixer, you may get away with using your French press once you have mixed the ingredients together, and then use the press to aerate the mix and give it a frothy whipped look and feel.

Using a cocktail shaker, filling it with ice and your ingredients (once all mixed together) and shaking vigorously for a couple of minutes may also produce a similar effect to the whipped cream that you are seeking.

How Do You Order A Light And Sweet Coffee From Starbucks?

I’m not a fan of Starbucks and my coffee cravings and coffee predilections don’t expand to the liquid cakes served there. You’ll get much better at upscale coffee shops.

The last time I did check, Starbucks don’t serve this particular creamy coffee drink but do have other special coffee available.

Here is how to order a light low calorie drink from the franchised coffee chain.

  • 1. Go for options with low or reduced fat milk options.
  • 2. Ask for less sugar, light sugar or real unrefined sugar options.
  • 3. Order your coffee unsweetened.
  • 4. Request cinnamon instead of regular sugar.
  • 5. Ask for a smaller cup size, ditch the Grande!

Will Coffee Make You Gain Weight?

On its own, coffee is not likely to cause significant weight gain. It is, however, possible that coffee could help you to lose weight as it enhances the metabolism and curbs your appetite.

When I am fasting I tend to go on a coffee fast as it quells my appetite.

I’d watch out for the added sugar, high fat cream and that famous franchise and their liquid cakes. A friend of mine had a coffee per day from Starbucks and ended up putting on a few kilos in only 3 weeks.
