You can absolutely put pumpkin spice in your coffee and make a very tasty and delicious hot coffee of any kind, but you need to process it to make a delicious pumpkin spice latte.
Just don’t go about putting in a teaspoon of pumpkin spice mix or a teaspoon of any spice generally speaking as you end up with a cup of coffee with a floating mess of spices that looks horrible and does not dissolve.
They will extract some of their flavor, but it is, to be honest, an ugly looking coffee and having the spices hanging in your throat is not at all a great thing.
Follow the instructions below for a tasty pumpkin spice latte recipe that doesn’t have anything floating in your Cup of Joe, just a great-tasting homemade pumpkin spice latte or any coffee drink of your choice.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe Ingredients
Making your own homemade pumpkin spice latte is incredibly easy. For the milk you can use any milk. Personally, I love using almond milk, oat milk and coconut milk. I love to change it up a little.
Rice milk is one type of milk I would advise on avoiding as it is a little too watery for this recipe.
It is entirely up to you if you want to use dairy or non-dairy milk. For a healthier version, you can use skimmed milk.
Without a doubt, you have to use a pumpkin purée as it is by far the best way. It is your own choice to use a canned one or if you make your own.
If you want more of a pumpkin taste, you can heat and simmer the purée until it reduces by a third. Doing so does increase the intensity of the pumpkin taste.
Sugar seriously alters the taste of your coffee in many ways.
You can experiment with regular sugar or use brown sugar. I advise experimenting with a range of sugars like coconut sugar, stevia, Agave, and a wide range of different honeys and syrups like maple syrup or simple syrup.
I regularly switch the sweetener that I use to completely alter how my coffee is. Experiment and find out what makes your pumpkin spice coffee taste amazing for you.
If you really want to try out something special. Add a dash of vanilla to your homemade pumpkin spice latte and make it extra special!
For the spices in your drink, it is entirely your choice to make your own and use them fresh or buy ready-made spices from your local store.
Something I love, on occasions, is topping up my pumpkin spice coffee with whipped cream!
That is my simple pumpkin pie spice latte that rocks. Just use simple ingredients and add a dash or two of vanilla and top up with whipped cream. Your taste buds will love you for it!
Which type of milk and sweetener you use is your choice.
The Method
Simply start by warming up your milk of choice slowly, your spices, vanilla extract and your real pumpkin purée or canned pumpkin purée on your stove.
Then your next step is to brew an extra strong cup of coffee and mix in your pumpkin spice milk with a few dashes of vanilla extract.
I suggest that you use a dark roast if you want a good coffee flavor to come through. Medium roasts and light roasts won’t cut through the milk and pumpkin purée mix.
Let your pumpkin pie spice and coffee mix simmer a little at a medium heat or low heat, whisk them together to ensure it is well mixed and pour into two cups, divided equally or just half fill your cup and top up with whipped cream. Add a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice for extra taste.
How To Make A Pumpkin Spice Latte With A French Press
The French press is loved by coffee enthusiasts due to being one of the few brewing methods where you have complete control over all the variables associated with brewing coffee. A huge reason why I, and many others, love French press coffee is due to being able to extract the full flavor profile from your coffee beans.
As a caution, the French press does not work so well with ground spices. It is best that you use whole spices with a French press.
Add 3 to 5 whole cloves of allspice as desired and 2 cinnamon sticks. Break your cinnamon sticks in half. Add 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of freshly grated ginger to your French press.
Mix them in with your coffee while brewing your French press coffee. The flavors of the spices will infuse into your coffee as it brews.
If you have a smaller French press, smaller than 16 ounces, alter your spice mix and ratios accordingly.
Your press will filter out the spices from your coffee. If you so wish, add a more flavor using vanilla spice rather than the essence of vanilla.
Pour your coffee and enjoy.
Pumpkin Spice Almond Milk Recipe
An almond milk variation of this much-loved cup of coffee is easy to make, easy-peasy lemon squeezy. Just follow the above two recipes and use almond milk instead of dairy milk.
You can make healthier variations by making healthy choices regarding milk and sweeteners.
