Turkish coffee, as a personal preference. I like it to around 100 microns, but that requires a specialty grinder that is hard to find.

What Baratza Encore Grinder Settings Should I Use For What Coffee Drink

Please refer to the above table for reference.

Use settings 1 to 3 for Turkish coffee with your Baratza Encore grinder. The smallest setting, number 11, will produce the 250 micron grind size. Personally, 250 is a bit large, having experienced the real deal over in Turkey, where their grind size can be so fine, flour like powder and around 50 micron size. Such a fine grinder is very difficult to find. 250 still gets the job done. Some experts suggest 200-100 micron powder for Turkish coffee. 250 is only slightly out.

Use settings 4 to 9 for an espresso. A good grind size for an espresso is in the 200-400 micron grind range. This grind size produces a very familiar espresso powder that is a shade larger in grind size than Turkish Coffee. Espresso needs to be a touch larger as the water needs to flow, and you still need a large coffee surface area to extract the flavor from the coffee beans.

Settings 4 to 16, I like 4 as my personal preference, for the Stovetop Espresso Maker (Moka Pot), which, like an espresso, requires a finely-ground coffee powder. Very finely ground powder as the water is forced up through the water chamber quickly.

Even though a Moka Pot resembles a percolator, the brewing process is very different and they both need very different grind sizes. If you use a coarse grind size with a Moka Pot you will end up with a weak and watery brew. To get that strong flavor you need fine grinds.

4 To 23 setting is a great grind size setting for the newest brewing technique, the Aeropress. The range is so wide as it depends on you, the brewer, as to how long you are going to brew your coffee. If you are aiming for a shorter extraction time, then use a smaller grind size.

11 To 29 will produce a medium-fine grind size that is perfect for siphon and pour over coffee.

A drip coffee maker will require a setting of 17 to 23. A good medium grind is what you are aiming for. With your drip makers, you can experiment with the grind settings for different coffee beans and get the stronger flavors or the weaker ones that you prefer.

Chemex coffee has a longer extraction time than regular drip coffee and pour over. 24 to 29 is a good setting for a Chemex.

Keep your mind on the fact that Chemex Filters are thicker and the rate of extraction is slower, and thus the brewing times are different.

31-36 is a great setting for a French Press and percolator coffee. The size produced is similar to salt grains. Hot water is in direct contact with the coffee grounds with these coffee brewing methods and thus, a large grind size prevents over extraction.

37 To 40 – this is perfect for Cold Brew and Cowboy coffee. To be honest, I love real cowboy coffee with whole beans!

Baratza Encore Cold Brew Setting

The ideal setting for cold brew with your Baratza Encore is 31 to 40. This will produce a good coarse grind size that is perfect for making cold brew. Experiment with this range and brew times to find what is perfect for you.

Baratza Encore French Press Setting

For a good quality full flavor French Press I suggest using a 31 to 36 grind size on your Baratza Encore grinder. As with all brewing methods, experiment a little and find out which one produces the best tasting brew for you.

Baratza Encore Medium Grind Setting

A good medium grind size is between 17 and 23 on the Baratza Encore Grinder. This setting is great for a number of coffee drinks, inc Chemex, Drip coffee and pour over.

Keep Your Grinder Clean!

The last thing that you want after putting in a great effort to brew an amazing cup of coffee is to have old rotten grounds making their way into your coffee.

By far the easiest way of ensuring this does not happen is to give your coffee grinder, regardless of which one, a clean down after every use. Blow it down, brush it out and give it a good wipe with a hot wet sponge to clean any coffee oil.

Then run a grinding cycle with nothing in it for 3 to 5 minutes.
